About IWF Grants

Established in 1994, the Iowa Women's Foundation (IWF) is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awards grants to seed, strengthen, and connect programs that benefit women and girls throughout Iowa.

Grants from the IWF are intended to promote lasting change - attending to the causes of inequity, as well as the symptoms. To that end, the Foundation develops the collective power of resources and advocates increased philanthropy by and for women and girls.

The Iowa Women's Foundation Announces 2 Areas of Focus in its Fourteenth Annual Grant-Giving Cycle

The Iowa Women's Foundation (IWF) is accepting grant proposals for its fourteenth annual grant-giving cycle. In this year's cycle, the Foundation is seeking applications for projects that address one of two specific areas of focus:

1) Assisting girls and women in the justice system, and

2) Skill-building in women and girls to help give them economic and personal success in life.

Area 1: Women and Girls in the Jusice System: To identify and intervene in certain at-risk factors that prevent successful rehabilitation of women and girls in the justice system. This may include projects that assist women who are currently incarcerated and/or girls in the juvenile justice system, or those identified as at-risk for entering the systems. This includes interventions that improve the health and mental health for these women and girls. Projects that address mental health are especially sought.

Area 2: Skill Building in women and girls: To develop and implement programs that encourage and educate/provide training to women and grils to develop skills that promote employment and economic success. This area will compliment the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women's goal to encourage non-traditional training and for skill-building, education, and recruitment of women for key industry sectors that have a skilled worker shortage in Iowa.

All projects applying for funding from the IWF must be specifically for women and/or girls in Iowa and not-for-profit in nature. Informal groups of women and/or girls, grassroots organizations, and formal not-for-profit organizations may apply for funding. The IWF seeks to fund projects that go beyond the provision of direct services to create underlying social change.
